Tom
Heskes
Coordinator MIR Labs - Netherlands |
Tom Heskes is full
professor in Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Computing and
Information Sciences (ICIS) of the Radboud University Nijmegen, the
Netherlands. He leads the Machine Learning group in the Intelligent
Systems section. Prof. Heskes got his PhD on learning processes in
neural networks in 1993, also at the Radboud University Nijmegen. After
a postdoc at the Beckman Institute at Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, he
returned to Nijmegen to work for SNN, the (former) Dutch Foundation for
Neural Networks. With two colleagues he started the spin-off company
SMART Research BV. In 2004 he moved from SNN to the ICIS, where he
became a full professor in 2008. Prof. Heskes is a principal
investigator at ICIS and an affiliated principal investigator at the
Donders Centre for Neuroscience.
Since 2003, Prof. Heskes is Editor-in-Chief
of Neurocomputing, one of the main journals on neural networks and
alike, publishing papers from computational neuroscience to machine
learning. He is further an editorial board member of the International
Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems and of Foundations and
Trends in Machine Learning, and serves in the program committees of many
international conferences. In 2006, Prof. Heskes received a prestigious
VICI grant for his work on Bayesian machine learning. His current
research interests include Bayesian modeling and inference, preference
elicitation, multi-task learning, brain-computer interfacing, causal
modeling, and Bayesian perception. |
